Madeleine L'Engle

What inspired you to write? Was it a book? A friend? A teacher? A trip, journey, or other defining moment? Did you always want to be a writer or did it just happen by 'accident'? What continued to inspire you to keep writing?

Madeleine always wanted to be a writer, ever since, she would say, she could hold a pencil. Her father was a journalist, novelist, and critic, so he was an early inspiration, and as an only child, she spent a great deal of time alone with her books, and when she had finished them, she made up her own stories. You can read more about her practice and journey as a writer in the Crosswicks Journals.
